Running AQT under Window Vista
AQT runs fine under Windows Vista. This includes AQT v8.2 plus earlier releases.
However there are a couple of issues:
- there can sometimes be installation problems. This is due to Vista being very strict about security, so can prevent some of the components used by AQT from being installed correctly. This can happen even if you run the install under an administrator id.
You will not get any warning message during the install. When AQT starts it will fail with an error message such as Component xxx.ocx or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid
For more on this subject, see Registering AQT components to Windows.
- under Vista, there are more security controls with saving/amending files in the c:\Program Files directory structure. It is recommended that the AQT Default Directory and directory for Save Queries not be part of C:\Program Files\Advanced Query Tool, but another directory on your disk.
These directories are specified in Options > File Locations.
