AQT is a Windows-based system and runs on any recent version of Windows:

  • Windows XP
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows Server 2003 and 2008
  • Windows 7
  • Windows 8
  • Windows 10

AQT runs fine in a Citrix or Terminal Server environment.

If you are running an earlier version of Windows (such as Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT or Windows 2000) you will need to run AQT v6. This is no longer supported, however should run fine.

.Net Framework

AQT v10 uses the Microsoft .Net Framework v3.5. This is not included in the install package.

If you are running Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista or Windows 7, the Microsoft .Net Framework should already be on your machine. If not, you may need to download and install it.

If you are running Windows 8 or Windows 10, the Microsoft .Net Framework may not be installed by default. To install it go to Control Panel > Windows Features.

64-bit versions of Windows

AQT runs fine on 64-bit versions of Windows.

When you install AQT on a 64-bit system, you will get both a 32-bit and a 64-bit version of AQT. You will need to run whichever one is compatible with your database client / ODBC Driver. For instance, if you are using a 64-bit database client / ODBC Driver, you will need to use the 64-bit AQT.

Non-Windows Operating Systems

AQT v8 can be run on Linux using Wine (an implementation of the Windows API in Linux). We have not yet succeeded in getting AQT v10 to run satisfactorily on Linux. Note that if you are licensed to run AQT v10 you can also run AQT v8.

See Running AQT v8 under Linux for some further notes on this.

We are currently developing a browser-based query tool. This will enable you to access your databases using any web browser, irrespective of the operating system. This will include hand-held devices and tablets.

ODBC Drivers

AQT uses ODBC drivers to connect to your database. Before you can use AQT with your database, you will need to install and configure both the Database Client and the ODBC Driver. AQT does not supply any ODBC Drivers.

See ODBC Drivers `for a description of how AQT interacts with ODBC Drivers and databases.

See Configuring a Database Connection for some notes on how to configure an ODBC Connection to connect to your database.
