Using the Window-list bar

The AQT window-list bar provides an easy way of switching between the windows in your AQT session.

To activate a particular AQT window, click on the button for that window.

Managing AQT's open windows

When you right-click a button, you see a number of options for customizing the appearance of the window-list bar, and for performing actions on the AQT windows:

Using these actions, you can:

• cascase or tile the AQT windows. The Selective Tile function gives you the ability to tile particular windows.
• minimise / maximise / activate an AQT window
• close an AQT window. The Selective Close option makes it easy to close a large number of windows
• you can also close an AQT window by middle-clicking a tab. A middle-click can be done by clicking the mouse-wheel.
• Rename the button in the toolbar. You may use this to give the button a more meaningful name.

Customizing the Window-list bar

You can use the options in the right-click menu to customize the appearance of the window-list bar. Some of these options are discussed in more detail below.

Window-list Button

When this option is selected, you will get a drop-down button at the left side of the toolbar. This shows you a list of all open AQT windows, grouped by database connection. This provides an alternative mechansism for navigating between AQT windows when you have a large number of windows.

Shrink Buttons to fit

When you have a large number of open windows, AQT will shrink the size of the buttons to fit in the window. If you de-select this option, the buttons will be full-width, you will need to scroll left and right to see all the buttons (a scroll button is given at either end of the toolbar).

There are a number of other options that control the size of the buttons.

• you can Rename a button to give it a shorter (or longer) caption
• when a Data Display window is opened, AQT will construct the caption of the button from the caption on the Data Display window. There are a number of options about how this caption is formed - these are given on Options > General
  • you can specify how long the caption is (number of characters). A longer caption will give a wider button on the bar.
  • when displaying a table, the caption is the table name. You can specify whether the caption is schema.tablename, or just tablename.
